This conference brings together interpreters and translators from different fields and organizations, providing a platform for sharing best practices, innovative techniques, and the latest research in the field. Attendees can participate in a variety of sessions, including workshops on simultaneous and consecutive interpretation, translation of documents with complex terminology, and the use of AI to support and enhance the work of interpreters and translators. This conference also emphasizes the importance of cultural competence and ethical standards, ensuring that participants are well-equipped to support the diverse population in their communities. Networking opportunities allow professionals to connect with peers, share experiences, and collaborate on strategies to overcome common challenges, making this event an invaluable resource for those committed to enhancing language access in their communities.
Featured Speakers:
- Keynote presenter, Dr. Jacqueline Sanderlin, author, educator, and motivational speaker, will provide attendees with insight into her success story, the power of community engagement, and the importance of community and family connections, equity, and resilience.
- Daniel Tamayo, conference interpreter and technical translator will present on “Simultaneous Interpretation,” focusing on producing renditions that are not only highly accurate but also flow smoothly and are pleasant to our listeners’ ears.
- Katharine Allen, founder and owner of Words Across Borders, interpreter trainer, will present on “Mastering the Nuances of Simultaneous Interpreting in Education: Onsite and Remote Strategies.”
- Giovanna Carriero-Contreras, translator and interpreter, interpreter trainer, and author will focus on “Ethics and Standards of Practice for interpreters” in a hands-on session where participants will explore how to effectively operate within the framework of the National Codes of Ethics for Interpreters and Translators in Education and address ethical issues.
- Néstor Wagner, Director, Southern California School of Interpretation (SCSI), will provide the basics of the multiple-domain approach to note-taking. Attendees will be able to interpret segments of up to 120 terms after completing this seminar.
