G. INSIGHTS

G.1. The perfume of bad translation

A couple of days ago, I was flying between Biarritz and Paris on an Easy Jet flight and picked up their onboard duty-free catalogue and thumbed to the perfume section. Years back during the dawn of social media, I used to use MySpace with my brothers for one main reason: to make fun of perfume ads.

H. SNEAK PEEK: NEXT ISSUE OF MultiLingual

The next issue of MultiLingual features a focus on life sciences. If you are a subscriber, this issue will be at your fingertips by mid-to-late July.

H.1. Updating healthcare localization by Kevin Donovan and Joni Minear

Recently the mid-sized, regional healthcare company where I work revamped its localization tools and processes. The story of how it accomplished this and how the improvements that it made have resulted in greater productivity is an interesting one.

H.2. No interpreters to be had by Emily deTar

I had booked an appointment with a top Chelsea medical clinic specializing in women's health, and had explained in advance that I was going to be accompanying a patient who was a guest of the British government who spoke a minority dialect but was also fluent in Arabic. I had been assured that the language barrier was not an issue.

H.3. MT application to localization of life sciences by Laura Casanellas Luri

These are some of the areas and content types we can associate with localization for the pharma industry: documentation related to clinical trials, research papers, patient's brochures, packaging and labeling of medicines or medical devices, marketing materials, online help and software.
