C. RESOURCES

C.1. Reports on open source in language technology, options for linguistic validation, agile, global websites, portal-based client interactions

Common Sense Advisory, an independent market research firm specializing in the language service industry, has published the report "Where Open Source Fits in Language Technology," that discusses open-source software (OSS) for the language sector, the rationale for developing it, and six OSS applications.

"Is Traditional Linguistic Validation Still the Way to Go?" covers what validating a vendor’s work entails, the typical process steps and formats, how to resolve linguistic disputes and the bottom line on whether to stick with the traditional linguistic review model.

"Localization at the Speed of Agile" covers what to expect and how to prepare for the transition to agile. The report shares best practices in four areas that determine success for localization teams when supporting agile: working relationships with developers, automation, linguistic quality and supplier networks.

"Assessing the World’s Most Prominent Websites" looks at language popularity on 2,787 prominent websites and the average number of languages found by vertical sector and other groupings. It also identifies several common financial metrics that correlate closely with language deployment; notably brand value, earnings per share, and earned equity growth.

"Portal-Based Client Interactions" is written for the strategic planners and information technology staff of language service providers. It describes the benefits of client portals and the options for online interaction that buyers find in the marketplace. The findings also underscore the importance of portal investment to meet client expectations for convenience and speed.
