Intergraph introduces Transcend language translator
Jun 20, 1995
Intergraph Corp., a leading provider in interactive computer graphics systems, has introduced a new machine translation software package for Windows-based personal computers, Transcend. Transcend translates to and from common European languages while preserving the format of the original document. Transcend's graphical user interface is compatible with Microsoft Office.
Transcend will operate as a stand-alone package or can be integrated with common word processors. Translations can be performed within Microsoft Word (RTF), WordPerfect, Ami Pro, FrameMaker, InterLeaf, QuarkXPress, and PageMaker RTF, and from SGML and ASCII texts. Transcend can translate up to over 370,000 words per hour on a Pentium-based PC at 90 MHz. Post-editing is required.
A core dictionary is provided for each language direction, and user-developed dictionaries can also be added. The initial release of Transcend in March 1995 is available in English-Spanish, Spanish-English, English-French, and French-English. In the second quarter of 1995, versions will be available for English-German, German-English, English-Italian, and English-Portuguese. Transcend lists for $495, with an introductory price of $295.
