Language Engineering releases new version of E to J translator

Language Engineering Corp. has introduced LogoVista E to J Personal version 1.5, an English to Japanese translation program for the Macintosh, Power Macintosh, and Microsoft Windows. LogoVista E to J Personal can translate texts automatically or can be used interactively, whereby the user can select from among choices of alternate words or parts of speech. LogoVista E to J Personal includes a dictionary of over 100,000 entries, and users can also create their own supplemental dictionaries.

English ASCII text files up to 8K in size may be imported for translation. LogoVista E to J Personal exports Japanese text files in Shift-JIS format, which allows them to be imported into Japanese applications. LogoVista E to J Personal version 1.5 was made available in November 1994 and is priced at $795 for either Macintosh or Windows versions.

LEC Power Translator 11

Language Engineering Company (LEC), LLC, a provider of translation software and services, has released Power Translator 11. Now compatible with Microsoft Vista, it is available in four versions -- Personal, Professional, Euro and World. New features include automatic detection of source language; add-ins for Microsoft Outlook and Firefox that provide translation of e-mails and web pages; untranslated word list in the Professional and Euro versions; and Quick Start Program.

LEC releases Translate DotNet 3

Language Engineering Company, LLC (LEC), a provider of translation software and services, has released version 3.0 of Translate DotNet, its subscription service for translation via the internet. A universal subscription allows translation of all LEC languages: Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Ukrainian. Version 3 incorporates a new control center for launching and configuring its specialized applications for translation of text, files, e-mail, chat, instant messages or web pages.

LEC has also upgraded its LEC.COM Web Browser subscription service, its subscription service for translation via the internet. A monthly subscription to the LEC.COM Web Browser service offers translation of all LEC languages.

LEC republishes Lexibase

Language Engineering Company, LLC (LEC), a provider of translation software and services, has released the Lexibase-Collins Bilingual Electronic Dictionaries on CD-ROM. The Lexibase-Collins series contains the most complete and recently renewed version of the Collins dictionaries for English to/from Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese. Each package comes in a standard and professional version. The standard version uses an alphabetical and approximate search simultaneously. The interface language can be English, Spanish, French, German or Italian. The professional version adds a speech synthesizer so that any text in the dictionaries, both in the source and target language, can be selected and spoken.

LEC Adds Hebrew to Translate DotNet

Language Engineering Company (LEC) has added Targumatic's Hebrew/English translation technology to Translate DotNet, LogoMedia Corporation's on-line automatic translation service. In addition to Hebrew, Translate DotNet offers quick and easy on-line translations to 15 other languages, including English, Spanish, French, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), German, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Ukrainian, Polish, Arabic, Turkish and Persian.

Translate DotNet features four cooperating translation applications -- LogoTrans, Transit, Translation Mirror and FileTrans -- to handle all types of translation requirements. Because all transactions are done directly from the Translate DotNet servers, subscribers always have access to the latest program upgrades, dictionaries and linguistics data for all languages offered. Depending on the number of languages utilized, subscription rates range from between $5 and $20 per month.

LEC enters agreements with MediaGold and LogoVista

Language Engineering Company (LEC), a provider of machine translation technology, products and services, entered a republishing agreement with MediaGold for the new LogoMedia Power Translator, version 8. Under the terms of the agreement, MediaGold will release version 8 of the Power Translator software in 2003 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Belgium and France. MediaGold will offer three different configurations of the new version: Home, Business and Professional.

Power Translator 8 incorporates enhanced translation engines and new user interfaces. All of the engines (except for a new English to Spanish engine licensed from LogoVista Corporation and English to and from Russian engines) are licensed from Bowne Global Solutions, which acquired the Power Translator brand in 2001 from Lernout & Hauspie.

LEC entered new licensing agreements with LogoVista Corporation, a provider of Japanese machine translation systems. LogoVista will extend its license to LEC of its English-to-Japanese and English-to-Spanish machine translation systems, user interfaces and dictionaries. As well, LEC will expand its license to LogoVista for its English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Portuguese multilingual translation systems. LogoVista has marketed the LEC engines in the LogoVista X Multilingual series since 2000. Under the terms of the new agreement, LogoVista will expand its marketing of the LEC engines to include them in its Korya Eiwa product line and through its on-line translation subscription service.
