Ágnes Varga

Chief technical officer at memoQ

wrote my Ph.D about the quality of raw and post-edited MT while I was working at the Szechenyi University in Győr, Hungary, and I met Balázs Kis, the current co-CEO of memoQ, during one of our Ph.D courses. There, he introduced me to memoQ. The alignment feature was perfect for my research, and this is where my long relationship with memoQ really started. About 10 years ago, I joined memoQ, and my first manager, Gábor Ugray, taught me more about real-life software development in a few months than I had learned through years of formal education. When Florian Sachse became our head of development he became one of the most influential people in my professional life. I worked under his management for almost eight years, and I would be a very different and much worse manager if I had not seen his invaluable example.

ACCOLADES

Ágnes is a fantastic woman!

Ágnes Varga has always been my role model. She is passionate about languages and uses her skills both in her private and professional life. She inspired me to pursue an IT degree in a foreign language. She loves working with people, listens to their ideas and problems, and she is always open to discussions. She manages her team ethically and effectively. I am very proud of her. She is one of the best candidates to be featured in the 2023 edition of MultiLingual’s Women’s History Month special this March.

Ágnes is a talent who is very modest, and she never shows off her knowledge and skills, yet asks that wisdom prevails.

Ágnes Varga is an amazing leader who always finds time for everyone. She’s always available and happy to solve questions.

Ágnes Varga is a very motivated and committed Hungarian woman, who is always there to light up the room with her smile. She really deserves our appreciation.

After a whole decade in software development, product management and team leadership at memoQ, Peter Reynolds and Balázs Kis and the team gave me the chance of becoming the CTO for the company about five months ago to lead our team of 40 talented product managers, designers, software engineers, quality engineers, and documentation and localization experts. It’s a big challenge for me, but I could never resist challenges, especially with such supporters as my coach, Kinga Pattermann, behind my back. I feel absolutely honored to be chosen from such a large number of excellent women.

Ágnes joined memoQ 10 years ago as a developer. She had just completed her Ph.D with a thesis on MT quality assessment and was also teaching software development. As a developer, she used her domain expertise in translation and translation technology to produce some very important technology. During her career at memoQ she also worked as a development team lead and product manager. In recent years, memoQ has grown considerably and we are in a space with some very strong and capable competition. Ágnes has taken a capable product and development team and made them even better and more focused on delivering real value to our customers in a very timely and quality-focused way.
