I’m absolutely thrilled and humbled to be included in this special issue of MultiLingual. My love for language, culture, and communication began when I was in elementary school. I began learning English as an extracurricular activity and I also had Russian and German pen pals to correspond with — these experiences helped me develop a passion for all things language-related. While in London completing my postgraduate studies in bilingual translation, I was inspired by Yota Georgakopolou who introduced me to the world of subtitling. I jumped at the first opportunity to intern in the field and learned everything I could about translation for media and entertainment. I’ve always loved connecting with people, so my professional world quickly expanded beyond my wildest dreams. I traveled overseas and eventually landed in Los Angeles. After a little stint in Montreal, I eventually returned to LA, which I now call my home.

Being part of the localization industry means the world to me. It’s about creating meaningful connections with clients, colleagues, and translators from all over the world. It’s about making content accessible globally, no matter the audience. In my current role, my life is all about solving problems and looking for solutions, often ones that are not so obvious. I would like to dedicate this nomination to all the women who dream of being part of something bigger. I wish each and every one of us to have the tenacity and the will to look for opportunities — big or small — and make a difference. My life has changed for the better, and it’s all because of the people I met along the way who gave me a chance to learn and be my best self. Now I can help others learn and be the best they can be. I hope to continue building our localization community and help others make the world a better place.
Magda is an outstanding professional in the audiovisual translation field. She’s been managing a very big team with humongous operations with some of the most demanding clients and projects in the industry. Apart from that, she’s a fierce and kind leader, always supporting her team. She’s also forward-thinking and a visionary who’s constantly inspiring us to become better!
