Nadia Garrido

Quality lead at Welocalize

was drawn to the world of languages as a 10-year old who started English lessons as most kids in my country did. I was never a sporty person, so I was used to quitting other activities such as ballet or handball after a few months in. Yet, over 30 years later, I can still recall my first English teacher, the image of that book cover and that unique smell of new books. Those lessons were so fun to me, and I was eager to learn more and more and never wanted to skip them! Little did I know then that life would take me through other jobs and careers before I found my way back to that first love and to getting my translation degree in my late 20s.

ACCOLADES

In-depth knowledge on quality processes and for driving such processes to the next level to exceed customer expectations.

Nadia Garrido has a very clear mindset. She is communicative, pragmatic, and in particular, unpretentious and genuinely cares about quality, her team, and teamwork. She is a rare gem.

Then, a new adventure began in the shape of the freelance translator life. I was lucky enough to do work I love such as proofreading a book, but I also had to endure long nights of technical translations with little support and low rates. Back in 2015, I started writing a new chapter as I became an employee of a major LSP and discovered so many new roles and possibilities. I worked as a project manager for two years, and that was a fantastic learning opportunity to unveil the “backstage” of translations projects and to be in direct contact with all the roles the localization industry has. Soon, I started feeling that pull again towards the linguistic side of things and become a quality manager; elated yet worried about leaving an established role to take a plunge at the age of 35. I had the best mentor (thanks, Romina Baldovino) and I soon faced the challenges and opportunities of handling new clients on my own.

Today, I’m lucky to say that I work with a group of supporting, knowledgeable, and fun people from all over the world. And I can also call some of them my friends. This industry has given me so much, starting from the chance to make a living doing what I love doing to taking three planes for a business trip and meeting new people from all over the world. I absolutely love that the collective voice of women is so loud in this industry, and I feel honored to share these pages with so many amazing colleagues. Every day I strive to learn and improve but being in this publication made me look back and see how much I have accomplished so far and to be hopeful for all that is to come.

Nadia is my manager at Welocalize. She is one of the kindest and most thoughtful people I know. I have learned so much and continue to learn from her every day. It’s a great feeling to know you always have the support of your manager, and she makes even the not-so-exciting parts of our job better!
