Roslyn Famous
Founder and CEO of Lingovox Translation Studio
After reading the stories of so many impressive women, you may easily forget that I am the founder and CEO of Lingovox Translation Studio, one of Puerto Rico’s growing women-owned language companies. What you will not forget, however, is that I am a woman who leads with a passion for the translation and localization profession, for industry standards, for advocacy, and for the business side of our industry. My 24-year career path has led me to some amazing opportunities and achievements that mean the world to me, including being included in this special women’s edition of MultiLingual magazine.
To go from being told several times that becoming a translator and interpreter was out of my reach, to earning a master’s degree from the graduate program in translation from the University of Puerto Rico, to becoming the co-founder and president of the current Asociación Puertorriqueña de Traductores e Intérpretes in 2021 is the truest testament of the love I have for my work. Yet this passion does not stop there. It spills over into the volunteer work I do as head judge for the Puerto Rico chapter of the Scripps National Spelling Bee (yep, that one); board member of Eureka Enrichment Services; judge for the Puerto Rico First Lego League Robotics Championship; member of the conference organizing committee of the newly formed Juntos, Association of Language Services of Latin America and the Caribbean; part of the membership committee of the Association of Language Companies; former chair of the translation committee for RISPRI, Puerto Rico’s sign language interpreter association; and now as a recently named board member of the Association of Language Companies.

I was born and raised in Bermuda speaking only English, so, as one of the only Bermudian translators in the world, it is a personal honor to be in this issue with so many exemplary women in the field. Thank you, MultiLingual magazine, for giving me a platform to encourage young students in my country to beat the odds and explore a fulfilling language-related career. I am also grateful for the amazing community of translators and interpreters in Puerto Rico — including the late Carmen Díaz, my primary mentor — who have been both colleagues and friends for nearly 25 years. So many women paved the way for me to be here today; I only hope I can do the same for others. And a special thanks to my mom, my number-one cheerleader from the beginning.
Roslyn represents a younger generation of language company owners, and has represented Puerto Rico and the Caribbean in the ALC and elsewhere for several years.
