Manchester firm Dals reports £15m in social value in first ESG report

Leading UK language provider highlights progress in ESG goals, including £15M in social value and net-zero commitment

13 May 2025 – Manchester-based language service provider Dals has published its first ESG Impact Report, revealing it has generated £15 million in social value across the UK — £7.4 million in 2024 alone.

Formerly known as DA Languages, Dals is the largest supplier of public sector language services in the UK, with contracts spanning NHS trusts, police forces, local councils, and private sector clients in healthcare and law.

The 2024–25 ESG Impact Report, which includes independently verified data from the Social Value Portal, follows the establishment of a dedicated ESG team in 2023.

Among the community initiatives highlighted are partnerships with The Bread and Butter Thing, The Christie Charity, and Manchester Central Foodbank. These organizations benefited from Dals’ policy allowing employees paid time off for volunteering.

In 2024, The Christie Charity also received £3,129 in donations through bake sales, sports events, and a Christmas raffle.

Beyond charity work, the report outlines how Dals is investing in local talent. Initiatives include mentoring in schools and collaboration with the Department for Work and Pensions, attending job fairs across Greater Manchester.

To date, 19 apprentices have completed Level 3 qualifications in business administration at Dals, with all offered full-time roles upon graduation.

Guy Battle, CEO of the Social Value Portal, commented:
“Dals’ first ESG report highlights its serious commitment to measurable, externally validated social impact. In 2024 alone, they delivered £7.4 million in social value — contributing to a total of £15 million since adopting the Social Value TOM System. We’re proud to support a company driving meaningful change in UK communities.”

Charlotte Gascoyne, Head of Sustainability and ESG at Dals, added:
“We’re proud to show the tangible difference we’re making in people’s lives. Our focus now is to build on this impact — especially by reducing our environmental footprint and helping shape a better future.”

The company identified transport emissions, particularly from its 10,000 interpreters traveling to appointments, as its largest carbon source. Since 2020, Dals has expanded its remote interpreting options via video and phone, significantly reducing travel needs.

As a result, face-to-face bookings dropped from 56% to 38%, while remote appointments rose to 62%, saving an estimated 671.88 tonnes of CO₂e.
