re all translation editors created equal? If you ask Henrique Cabral of Bureau Works, the answer is most certainly “no.” And he makes a persuasive case, considering that Bureau Works’ Free Flow Editor earned third place at LocWorld53’s Process Innovation Challenge (PIC) for its powerful, flexible, and myriad applications.
What separates Free Flow from the rest? As Henrique explained in his PIC presentation, it’s in its ability to comprehensively analyze a document and produce a translation perfectly customized for the user’s needs.
“We’re taking the first step towards a future where the translator is truly an author, not only in the loop but fully in control,” he said. “Free Flow delivers the simplicity that people demand and has the dimensions that experts need: collaboration, authorship, traceability, and adaptability.”
Henrique explained that Free Flow analyzes the text to understand the subject, tone, and audience and generates a lifestyle guide to help direct the transmission. “Then I create my baseline translation, a first pass that captures the intent of the regional as whole,” he said. “But unlike traditional systems, I’m not translating sentence by sentence.”
Henrique demonstrated Free Flow turning a block of text into a webpage, going through each parameter to set the length and tone, the website purpose, and its discoverability on the internet. “Even though I’m departing from my starting point, Free Flow is creating snapshots of my entire creative journey,” he said.
And that’s the beauty of Free Flow: Once a product is generated, it’s ready for review by the entire team, and no one needs to be a translation systems expert to use it.
But that’s just the beginning of what Free Flow can do. Need a quick email turned around? Free Flow can handle it with an eye toward conciseness, clarity, and clear calls to action. How about a LinkedIn post? Free Flow can analyze previous posts to capture the same voice, gearing the output to catchy, sharp, engagement-driven copy.
“Bureau Works tracks these variants along with the full configurations, tone, and structures,” Henrique explained. “The system balances tone and voice based on prior posts, keywords, hashtags, and other preferences.”
Free Flow also works with images and audio, and every variant can be saved to ensure it’s there when you need it.
Henrique emphasized that Free Flow maximizes the user’s authorial vision. It transforms the editing process into one that considers the whole work in its totality.
“This isn’t just a content-editing tool,” Henrique said. “This is the intersection of content creation and translation — a place where work compounds, not resets.”
“Translations as we’ve known them may be over, but this may be the beginning of something far more valuable,” he added.
