he American Translators Association (ATA) held its 2024 conference in Portland, Oregon, from October 30 to November 2. The event attracted over 1,200 attendees and speakers from all over the world: freelance translators, interpreters, localization professionals, language services company representatives, vendor managers, and providers of tools and resources for the language industry.

ATA65 kicked off with Advanced Skills and Training (AST) courses taught by top-notch instructors. Discussions focused on the role of technology in translation and interpreting, the skills and mindset shift needed to succeed in the changing market, advocacy issues, and inclusive language in translation. It was an incredible opportunity to complete continuing education requirements, build subject-matter expertise, discover new areas of specialization, and learn tips and tricks from experts in a variety of areas.

ATA65 attendees had plenty of time to reconnect with old friends, meet new colleagues, expand their client base, and discover opportunities to collaborate. Attendees talked to representatives from language services companies, tool providers, and other organizations in the Exhibit Hall and during the Job Fair. They shared new business ideas and met like-minded colleagues at the Stronger Together Networking event, made new connections at the Buddies Welcome Newbies event, and discussed real-world business dilemmas during the popular Brainstorm Networking event.
