eld October 28-30, LocWorld52 took place in beautiful Monterey, California at the Monterey Conference Center. Designed for localization professionals to connect, learn, and network with one another, LocWorld52 was a smashing success. It welcomed more than 600 attendees, both newbies and industry veterans, all eager to discuss artificial intelligence (AI) and other hot topics. This LocWorld conference was particularly special because the organizers were able to welcome students from the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS), who offered volunteer support throughout three rigorous days of conference sessions.

LocWorld52 was thrilled to welcome speakers from diverse industries. Keynote speaker David Harris, Chancellor’s Public Scholar and Continuing Lecturer at University of California, Berkeley, gave a particularly thought-proving presentation on the ethics of AI in a global context. Representatives from the United States Department of State, Yun-hyang Lee and Claudia Tebay, shared an insightful presentation on the importance of language precision and cultural relevance in diplomacy and localization. Meanwhile, members of Women in Localization gave a highly topical presentation predicting AI’s impact on the industry and emphasizing the need to understand its implications for gender diversity and industry practices.

Additionally, LocWorld52 hosted its 17th Process Innovation Challenge (PIC), offering a platform for industry innovators to share their game-changing ideas with peers and experts for the chance to win the “Innovator of the Year” award. Fabio Minazzi took home the title this season in recognition of Translated’s heart-warming initiative, “Voice for Purpose: A Multilingual Voice Donation Ecosystem Empowering Individuals with Vocal Disabilities to Communicate Worldwide.”
Topping off the highnotes of the conference, the beauty Monterey offered was a delight to attendees, sponsors, vendors, and the entire LocWorld team. With a thriving marine wildlife scene, stunning bay views, and the bark of the sealions hard to miss, another LocWorld conference in Monterey could easily be on the horizon.
