TranslateMyCall.com is coming out of stealth mode and launching its software, which provides free over-the-phone interpreting (OPI) powered by AI. 

TranslateMyCall.com is the first-available OPI solution that is powered by AI rather than by human interpreters. In-person AI interpreting has been possible for some time with programs like Google Translate, and over Internet calls with software like Skype. However, traditional telephony, despite still being a large market, has not been supported by any AI-powered software to date due to issues with the low audio quality of telephony. 

The TranslateMyCall.com team has now overcome those audio quality issues with the help of AI techniques developed this year. The resulting software can interpret between any pair of 40 supported languages, ranging from Arabic to Vietnamese. The AI interpreter conducts simultaneous interpretation over a phone call, with a short delay after each speaker’s first complete sentence. 

OPI is estimated to be roughly a $1 billion/year market, but current human-powered solutions suffer from a number of problems. These include interpreter availability — it can take minutes to hours until a human interpreter is available for some language pairs, if ever — and cost, with rates per minute typically ranging from $1 to $3, making human-powered OPI prohibitively expensive for many use cases. TranslateMyCall.com makes interpretation available instantly for even rare language pairs, and is currently available for free. 

TranslateMyCall.com is currently available via a web app at www.translatemycall.com — to launch a call, users input their phone numbers and languages, and then each receive the call over an interpreted line. TranslateMyCall.com is now available for free use in 36 countries, and will remain free of charge while it is in public alpha. 

TranslateMyCall.com was developed by serial entrepreneur Alex Kolchinski, an alumnus of the Stanford AI Lab and Y Combinator startup accelerator, working with a team in San Francisco.
