Bolingo Consult Launches Ami Series, a children’s book on the environment translated into seven languages

Bolingo Consult launched Ami Series a children’s book on the environment in December 2022 in Arusha, Tanzania.  The Ami Series is authored by Ami D. Christelle Zami. The book introduces children aged 6 to 14 to concepts such as Climate Change, caring for nature, tree planting, recycling and other environmental issues in their mother tongue.

The overarching objective of this initiative is tied to Bolingo Consult’s vision of unlocking confidence in African languages. We seek to achieve this through facilitating access to information for everyone in their mother tongue and raising the digital profile of African languages.

Various activities took place during the event which contributed to make it a success. Two panel discussions were held in English and Swahili, during which youth were able to express their understanding of environmental issues and their point of view on a couple of questions such as:

  • Why is it important to talk about environmental issues today?
  • What are the pressing environmental issues tackled in the Ami series?
  • Why was Ami concerned about her friends in the book?
  • How can you imitate Ami?

There was also reading of excerpts of the book, followed by a spoken word performance by Ruddy Morfaw. It described the beauty of Nature, the interconnectedness of the various elements of Nature and the positive impacts of a safe environment.

Ami Series is currently available in seven languages, namely Kiswahili (spoken widely in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda), Twi and Ewe (spoken in Ghana), Zulu (spoken in South Africa), Arabic, French and English.
