Green Terp Makes TerpMate Free Forever and Introduces Breakthrough Features for Interpreters

Green Terp has announced that TerpMate, its computer-assisted interpreting (CAI) solution, is now available as a Free Forever Community Edition, with no subscriptions, no usage limits, and no feature restrictions.

The release also introduces two major developments for the interpreting profession:

  • Integrated Twin-Track Recording and Playback
  • A dedicated Consecutive Mode for Tablets

TerpMate has been rebuilt around a clear premise: CAI tools must respect real-time interpreting conditions. Unlike cloud-dependent systems that require continuous connectivity, TerpMate supports both offline and online speech recognition, ensuring confidentiality, stability, and predictable performance in high-stakes settings such as legal proceedings and international arbitration.

Twin-track recording: no hardware, no configuration

TerpMate now allows interpreters to record the floor audio and their own interpretation simultaneously in two separate channels, without external recorders, cables, or complex routing.

With a single click, users can:

  • Capture floor and interpretation audio in parallel
  • Replay them synchronously or independently
  • Export a stereo MP3 file (left channel: floor; right channel: interpretation)

This enables structured performance review, trainer evaluation, student assessment, and professional portfolio development. Integrated twin-track recording without additional hardware is not currently available in other CAI tools.

Consecutive mode designed for real-world practice

Recognizing that a significant proportion of legal and diplomatic work is conducted consecutively, TerpMate introduces a tablet-based workspace tailored specifically for consecutive interpreting.

The interface combines:

  • Handwritten note-taking
  • Synchronized speech recognition
  • Full-text translation in scrolling view
  • Intuitive pause/resume control to follow speaker turns

This design minimizes operational friction and avoids competing for the interpreter’s attention during delivery.

Free forever by design

TerpMate’s free model is made possible by its offline-first architecture and low infrastructure overhead. “CAI should not be a recurring cost barrier for interpreters,” the company noted. “Removing subscription constraints accelerates adoption and allows professionals to evaluate tools based on performance rather than pricing.”

TerpMate is available immediately.
