Interprefy Releases Report on How Global Businesses Use Live Translation

New research announced today has revealed that an overwhelming majority of event planning professionals (94%) said they would consider using AI as part of the live translation services at their events. However, as it stands for the moment, in-person professional simultaneous interpretation is THE most popular translation service used by 70% of multilingual event planning professionals. AI-powered speech translation is a close second at 67%, which shows that event planning professionals are already considering which technology is best suited for the event they are organizing.

These results are part of an exclusive report published by Interprefy, the multilingual event technology and services partner that surveyed the views of 1000 key decision makers in events, marketing, and project management positions for multinational companies around the world.

The market value of the AI/ machine translation industry is predicted to reach $3 billion by 2026/27. This shift has been fuelled by the adoption of hybrid working and the acceleration of organisations seeking out employees and freelance teams across the world.

Commenting on the results from this research, Oddmund Braaten, CEO at Interprefy, said, “The speed with which AI-powered speech translation has been adopted since its launch less than two years ago is impressive. However, it is important to acknowledge that the report also shows that 58% of respondents use Remote Simultaneous Interpretation and 53.5% use live multilingual captions. This demonstrates the breadth of multilingual technology available to event planning professionals today.”

To understand the type of events where AI-powered speech translation is used, the research shows that over two-thirds (69%) use it for business meetings and only 40% use it for corporate training purposes.

This raises a wider question of whether organisations can do more to provide employees with the necessary multilingual live translation support they need.

Braaten continues, “The expansion in live translation services provides organisations with more opportunity to expand their multilingual support beyond traditional external conferences or events. In the past organisations’ use of in-person interpretation and remote simultaneous interpretation has perhaps been limited to high-value events, however, with the growing awareness of new, innovative, and accessible live translation services we are seeing more internal and training events offering multilingual services.”

The full research results are published in the report titled ‘Global businesses and live translation: An Interprefy report investigating how and why business event organisers use live translation services.
