Successful 2024 CITEI Conference in Lima

The Colegio de Traductores del Perú (CTP) successfully held the third International Congress on Translation and Interpreting (CITEI) on May 24th and 25th at Los Delfines Hotel & Convention Center in Lima. Organized in collaboration with Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC), Universidad Ricardo Palma (URP), Universidad César Vallejo (UCV), and Universidad Femenina del Sagrado Corazón (UNIFÉ), this event gathered more than 650 participants for two days of professional development and networking.

Under the theme “One World, Many Voices: Translators and Interpreters in the Digital Age,” the congress delved into the significance of translation and interpreting in an interconnected world. It offered a platform for discussing both traditional perspectives and technological innovations transforming the profession, enabling the sharing of knowledge and experiences crucial to our industry.

The opening ceremony gathered university authorities from UPC, URP, UCV, and UNIFÉ, as well as the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Elizabeth Galdo Marín, and the President of CTP, Mary Ann Monteagudo. With over 60 parallel sessions, 10 plenaries, and five round tables, the congress provided a unique space to share knowledge and trends in specialized fields. Topics included the latest technologies applied to translation and interpreting, ethics, indigenous languages, literary and audiovisual translation, and interpreting in legal and medical contexts.

The job fair was a great opportunity for attendees. Translation agencies hosted tables and were ready to meet with potential employees. Additionally, the congress featured an author “meet and greet,” providing an opportunity to meet distinguished speakers and receive book dedications.

This event enjoyed the support of sponsors such as the Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Lingüística Aplicada (IULMA), the Universidad de Málaga (UMA), the International Federation of Translators (FIT), the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), the Lima Institute of Technical Studies (LITS), and companies such as MultiLingual Media, Bilingual, tbo, Avento, Wordfast, and Libun.

The CTP expresses its heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, speakers, sponsors, and organizing committee members for making CITEI 2024 an unforgettable event. We eagerly await the next edition, where we will continue to explore and celebrate diversity and innovation in our profession.
