GLOBO Invests in the Future of ASL Interpreting Professionals

April 2022 –  Crabtree, a GLOBO company, is proud to announce the expansion of professional development opportunities for American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting students attending San Antonio College. GLOBO acquired Crabtree Interpreting Services in 2021. The strategic acquisition has expanded GLOBO’s ability to service ASL via video interpreting and on-site interpreting. This is the first time Crabtree has expanded its internship program to reach students beyond the Houston Metro area.

“As we envision a world in which Deaf people have communication access readily available, we hold ourselves accountable to the future of the profession,” states Whitney Douglass, who joins GLOBO from Crabtree as Director of Operations. “We feel a deep sense of respect for and responsibility to students of interpreting, and we value partnerships with schools like San Antonio College that invite us to support students throughout their education.”

GLOBO is passionate about investing in future generations of interpreters. Through the partnership with San Antonio College, students will gain access to virtual weekly Skills Labs, professional Deaf and hearing mentors and additional learning opportunities to earn credit hours toward their internship.

Additionally, the San Antonio College Interpreter Training Program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education and is rated Exemplary by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. As the only program in Texas that requires students to pass the State Certification Exam as a graduation requirement, San Antonio College graduates stand out in their career readiness.

“At GLOBO, we realize that our interpreters are one of our greatest assets,” says Dipak Patel, President and Chief Operating Officer at GLOBO. “This partnership is an exciting opportunity for us to really champion that and to invest in the hands-on development of future ASL interpreting professionals to better serve the San Antonio community.”

GLOBO looks forward to expanding services and professional development programs to other regions in the future.
