The Week in Review: Language Industry News February 24 – March 2

0
Week In Review Feb. 24 -March 4

This week’s stories trace a wide arc across civil‑rights policy, event‑accessibility technology, agentic AI for enterprise localization, and the next major leap in automated translation workflows. Together, they show an industry grappling with both structural inequities and rapid technical acceleration — and building tools, policies, and platforms that expand access, reduce friction, and reimagine how multilingual communication happens at scale.

Product Expansion

Wordly has introduced a new set of mobile‑focused updates designed to make it easier for attendees and speakers to participate in multilingual sessions directly from their phones. The enhancements support how people actually move through conferences, allowing translated audio to continue while switching apps, preserving battery life during long event days, and making it faster to find a preferred language. For presenters, new in‑app speaking tools support more interactive, multilingual exchanges in smaller or fast‑moving sessions, positioning the app as a lightweight alternative to traditional interpretation hardware.

XTM has introduced XTM Agent, a new agentic‑AI feature inside XTM Cloud designed to help enterprise localization teams automate routine tasks and navigate complex workflows more efficiently. The agent can answer questions, surface relevant settings, guide users through configuration steps, and provide contextual recommendations drawn from the platform’s documentation and best practices. By embedding an interactive, task‑oriented AI assistant directly into the TMS, XTM positions XTM Agent as a way to reduce operational friction and support teams managing high‑volume, multistakeholder localization programs.

ModelFront has released the general availability of its automatic post‑editing (APE) model, now included by default for all customers and designed to work in tandem with the company’s quality prediction system. While quality prediction already automates segments that require no human edits, APE targets the millions of translations that need only small, repetitive fixes — expanding the volume of content that can be safely automated at human‑quality levels. Early enterprise adopters report significant increases in MT auto‑approval rates, with APE and QP functioning as a closed‑loop system that detects errors, generates corrections, and re‑evaluates output before escalating to human editors.

Community

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR) has unanimously approved its report on language access for individuals with Limited English Proficiency – the culmination of a yearlong investigation into how language barriers restrict access to essential government services and healthcare. The report outlines gaps in federal and federally funded programs, highlights testimony from researchers, attorneys, officials, and impacted communities, and offers best‑practice recommendations to strengthen interpretation and translation services nationwide. Once finalized in May, the report will be formally transmitted to the President and Congress, reinforcing bipartisan support for more equitable language‑access policy.

WE ARE VERY has launched a new community app inspired by a LocWorld54 activation where attendees shared “what they are very about,” revealing a strong appetite for identity‑driven connection. The platform lets users declare what they’re “very” into, join or create communities, organize events, and interact through contextual reactions rather than follower counts or traditional social metrics. Built as an alternative to engagement‑maximizing social media, the app aims to foster real‑world connection and multilingual self‑expression, extending the company’s long‑standing focus on language, identity, and creative communication.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Across policy, enterprise workflows, and translation automation, this week’s stories reveal a sector simultaneously pushing toward greater inclusion and efficiency at the same time. Civil‑rights bodies are formalizing language‑access expectations, while companies are building platforms around identity and connection, and AI continues to reshape both the front‑end experience and the back‑end infrastructure of multilingual communication. The future of language work is not just more automated — it’s more human‑centered, more accessible, and more interconnected.

The Antidote 12 product icon displayed on mobile devies

Druide informatique has announced the release of Antidote 12 v4, which comes with an array of free updates for the entire writing assistance software’s product line. These updates enrich the dictionaries with hundreds of entries, improve the corrector’s detections and make connectors more stable for browsers.

More Precise Corrections

The corrector sees many improvements with the new update. It better identifies tenses in if clauses and temporal subordinate clauses (e.g. whenwhilebefore), into/in to after a verb, and a/an before acronyms, initialisms and abbreviations, among other things. The corrector also suggests reformulations to fix complex errors more often.

Richer Dictionaries and Guides

All dictionaries are updated with new entries: 350 words and expressions, such as workslopyassify and rain chain, and 48 etymological notes, like on the origin of duct tapeSaskatchewan and no cap. The guides get 7 articles, including one on how to recognize and avoid sneaky dangling participles.

As for the French dictionaries and guides, 750 words and expressions, 48 etymological notes and 4 articles have been added. Users whose Antidote handles both English and French can access 9000 more translations for words, expressions and combinations, as well as 6 new articles in the bilingual guides.

Antidote 12 v4 lets users sort the external resources they added to the dictionary of definitions and access a resource with the Commission de toponymie du Québec’s detailed notes.

More Efficient Integrations

The connectors for Chrome and Safari are more stable, with improvements for Gmail and Google Docs. Live Correction integrates with Outlook on the web. Adobe InDesign’s connector is updated. The keyboard shortcuts for the Correct selection and Correct clipboard commands are customizable.

Updates for the Entire Product Line

Antidote Web includes most of these new features, and Antidote Mobile benefits from the same expanded dictionaries and guides. Antidote 12 will automatically prompt users to download the update, and the App Store will do the same for Antidote Mobile. Antidote Web has already been updated. Users who own an earlier edition can upgrade their software by visiting www.antidote.info.

Welo Data Wins Best Cyber Security Innovation at the Global Business Tech Awards

0
Welo Data

Welo Data, the multilingual data and evaluation partner for foundation labs and enterprises deploying generative AI systems globally, announced that its Network Identity Management and Operations (NIMO) platform has won Best Cyber Security Innovation at the Global Business Tech Awards 2026.

NIMO is a cybersecurity framework purpose-built to secure the AI supply chain. As AI systems increasingly rely on globally distributed human contributors for data labeling, evaluation, and reinforcement learning, new vulnerabilities have emerged, including identity spoofing, coordinated fraud, and synthetic personas that can compromise data quality and therefore model performance.

Built on enterprise-grade security principles from financial services frameworks such as Know Your Customer (KYC) and real-time transaction monitoring, NIMO creates a dynamic security perimeter around the human layer of AI development. Powered by AI models, it combines verified identity, device intelligence, behavioral analytics, and adaptive trust scoring to ensure that only legitimate, consistently trustworthy contributors produce and interact with sensitive model data.

NIMO conducts security management at scale, screening and processing around 1 million real-time events per month. Over the last two years, NIMO has detected and flagged an increasing number of transactions suspected of fraud or misrepresentation as fraud and cyber-attacks have become more prevalent more broadly.

By integrating cybersecurity tooling, behavioral science, and AI-driven anomaly detection, NIMO has consistently increased the effectiveness of early-stage fraud detection and therefore the ability to deliver high-quality training data to foundation model builders.

“Generative AI systems are only as trustworthy as the data used to train them,” said Siobhan Hann, Welo Data GM. “With NIMO, we have built a security-first framework that protects the human layer of AI development at global scale. When you mitigate fraud and increase transparency, you directly improve data quality and model reliability. This award validates our belief that AI innovation must be matched by equally rigorous advances in data integrity, workforce verification, and risk management.”

In addition to NIMO’s win, Welo Data’s Model Assessment Suite (MAS) was recognized as a finalist for Best Use of Data. MAS supports foundation model development and enterprise AI deployment by delivering high-quality, multilingual datasets and evaluation frameworks designed to improve performance, safety, and consistency across languages and markets.

Together, NIMO and MAS reflect Welo Data’s broader strategy: combining human expertise, AI-enabled automation, and enterprise-grade governance to operationalize trustworthy AI at scale.

As global adoption of generative AI accelerates, safeguarding the authenticity of human-sourced training data has become a strategic imperative for both foundation labs and enterprises. By securing contributor identity, continuously monitoring behavioral risk, and embedding automated trust and safety workflows into data operations, Welo Data is helping to establish a new industry benchmark for AI supply chain integrity.

“AI integrity does not happen by accident,” comments Chris Grebisz, Welocalize’s CIO. “It requires sustained investment, strong governance, and a team willing to challenge assumptions about how human data pipelines should be secured. We are proud of what the team has built and honored that the Global Business Tech Awards’ judges recognize its importance.”

The full list of winners is available here: 2026 Winners – Global Business Tech Awards.

USCCR Approves Report on Language Access for Individuals with Limited English Proficiency

0
U.S. Commission on Civil Rights emblem

On February 24, 2026, the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR) approved its report examining language access for individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). The report was unanimously approved by a bipartisan group of Commissioners and will be finalized and released in May 2026. Upon release, it will be formally transmitted to the President and Congress as part of the Commission’s responsibility to advise the nation’s leaders on civil rights matters.

This report is the culmination of a yearlong investigation, led by Commissioner Glenn Magpantay, that examined the extent to which language barriers impact access to essential government services and healthcare for LEP individuals. The Commission assessed how federal agencies and recipients of federal funding provide language access, where gaps remain, and best practices for strengthening interpretation and translation services.

The investigation began with a briefing held on March 21, 2025, during which the Commission heard testimony from subject matter experts such as language access researchers and attorneys, federal and state government officials, community advocates, and directly impacted individuals.

Chair Rochelle M. Garza stated: “Access to government services and healthcare should not depend on the language a person speaks. Our unanimous vote reflects bipartisan support for ensuring meaningful access to essential services and care that individuals with limited English proficiency rely on. This report, together with its findings and actionable recommendations, provides a roadmap for strengthening language access across the federal government.”

Commissioner Glenn Magpantay, who led the investigation, stated: “Today, 26 million Americans are limited English proficient. Yet many cannot access essential government services and life-saving healthcare because English may not be their first language.  This report surveys challenges in providing language assistance — as is required by several federal, state, and municipal laws and regulations — and offers best practices to ensure every American has equal opportunity to government programs and services.”

The Commission’s final report will include formal findings and recommendations designed to inform federal policy and strengthen enforcement of civil rights protections for LEP individuals.

About the USCCR

The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, established by the Civil Rights Act of 1957, is the only independent, bipartisan
agency charged with advising the President and Congress on civil rights and reporting annually on federal civil rights
enforcement. Its 56 state Advisory Committees offer a broad perspective on civil rights concerns at state and local
levels. The Commission: in its 7th decade, a continuing legacy of influence in civil rights.

WE ARE VERY Launches Community App

0
WE ARE VERY Community App home screen on a mobile device

WE ARE VERY, the LA-based multilingual content creation and localization company, has announced the launch of their very own community app.

The idea came from LocWorld54 in Monterey, California, where WE ARE VERY set up a polaroid booth with a simple question: What are you very about? Attendees wrote down answers and posed for polaroid portraits. Nearly 100 attendees participated, writing answers and posing for Polaroid portraits and eight weeks later, it’s now a platform.

“People didn’t just write down something clever and move on,” said Rinaldo Dieziger, founder of WE ARE VERY. “They stopped. They got personal. Strangers connected over their answers. That’s when I realized the question had a gravity we hadn’t anticipated.”

The question itself is embedded in the brand’s DNA. When Dieziger rebranded the company in 2024 after acquiring the US subsidiary from Swiss parent Supertext, he looked at his team and made a list of who they are: very into cats, very tennis crazy, very opinionated, very multilingual. Then he stripped everything away and kept only the thread that ran through all of it: WE ARE VERY.

“The name clicked instantly when Rinaldo presented it,” said Kristy Sakai, CEO of WE ARE VERY. “But what surprised us was how other people responded to it. On merch, at events, even on the website — everyone immediately filled in the blank. They made it theirs. The brand was asking a question we hadn’t consciously designed it to ask.”

Eight weeks after LocWorld54, the WE ARE VERY Community App is live.

Very community. Very real life.

The platform is built around a simple mechanic: declare what you’re very about, and you’re in a community. Join groups, start new ones, have conversations, organize events, meet people in person.

The app deliberately breaks with conventional social media patterns. There are no follower counts. Instead of a like button, posts receive contextual reactions — VERY Cool, VERY Interesting, VERY Sad, VERY Nice — giving every interaction more texture. Events are a core feature, not an add-on: every community can host meetups, workshops, or adventures.

“We wanted to build a social platform where the end goal isn’t more screen time,” said Dieziger. “It’s finding your people and actually doing something together. Online and offline.”

The app is now available on iOS, Android, and web and is built with React, Expo, and Supabase.

From language to identity

WE ARE VERY was founded as Supertext in Zurich in 2005 and expanded to the US in 2016, where Sakai has led operations as CEO. The company provides content creation, localization, and multimedia services to international clients, and recently launched a multilingual editor platform for content teams.

A community app is new territory — but the company sees it as a natural extension. “We’ve spent 20 years helping brands say who they are across languages and cultures,” said Sakai. “The community app does the same thing for individuals. It gives people a way to articulate who they are and find others who share that identity.”

Transifex Announces Major Platform Update to Solve AI Quality and Control

0
Transifex by XTM

Transifex by XTM has announced a major platform update that’s designed to help organizations actively manage translation quality, govern AI output, and accelerate localization with less operational friction.

The release introduces TQI Tasks and Structured AI Style Guides, alongside workflow improvements that give localization leaders clearer visibility into quality, greater control over AI behavior, and stronger confidence as they scale global content.

Together, these updates help organizations reduce the cost of localization by automating quality decisions, minimizing unnecessary human review, and enabling teams to ship high-quality content faster.

Turning translation quality into action with TQI Tasks

TQI (Translation Quality Index) Tasks allow organizations to automatically evaluate the quality of existing translations at scale. Instead of manually reviewing every string, teams can run a TQI Task across batches of content to calculate quality scores and surface the most common issues

For example, teams can set clear quality thresholds and only route lower-scoring content to a human reviewer. This way, high-quality translations move straight to release, while human expertise is focused only where it adds value.

This helps you:

  • Reduce review costs by up to 40% compared to manual evaluation
  • Save review time by skipping high-quality translations
  • Focus manual QA only where it’s needed
  • Gain visibility into overall translation quality across projects

Bringing predictability and governance to AI translations with Structured AI Style Guides

Structured AI Style Guides give organizations direct control over how AI applies brand voice, tone, and language rules. Instead of relying on opaque summaries, teams define clear instructions designed specifically for AI.

When AI translations are aligned with brand expectations upfront, teams spend less time rewriting and correcting content. Fewer edit cycles mean lower review costs, faster time to market, and greater confidence in AI-driven localization at scale.

This delivers:

  • More predictable AI output that aligns with brand and language standards
  • Stronger governance through visible, editable, and enforceable style rules
  • Faster iteration as updates are applied incrementally without rework
  • A foundation for measurable quality checks tied directly to TQI

Removing friction from content workflows with Add Strings Online

Transifex also introduced Add Strings Online, enabling teams to create new source strings directly in the platform without editing or re-uploading files.

The benefits include:

  • Faster localization cycles by removing dependencies on development teams
  • Fewer errors caused by manual file handling
  • Greater autonomy for content, product, and localization teams
  • A single system of record for both source content and translations

A platform built for scale, control, and confidence

“These updates reflect a clear shift in how enterprises think about localization,” said Lorcan Malone, CEO of XTM. “AI has made it easier to translate at scale, but harder to maintain confidence in quality. With TQI Tasks and Structured AI Style Guides, Transifex gives leaders the visibility and control they need to scale global content without compromising standards.”

For companies already scaling internationally, the impact is tangible. “Today, over 60% of our new acquisitions come from non-English markets, driving over 40% of our revenue,” said Daniel Garcia, Senior Growth Marketer at Doist. “Transifex plays a central role in making that possible. Its AI-driven workflows allow us to scale globally while keeping human expertise exactly where it has the greatest impact.”

The announcement reinforces Transifex’s continued investment in AI localization as part of XTM’s broader mission to help enterprises scale global content with confidence. By combining automation with measurable quality and clear governance, Transifex supports XTM’s vision of transforming language from a barrier into an opportunity, helping organizations move faster while maintaining trust across every language.

Wordly Introduces Mobile-First Enhancements to Translation App, Expanding Onsite and Hybrid Event Accessibility

0
Wordly

As events become more global and multilingual, organizers are under increasing pressure to deliver seamless, inclusive experiences without adding operational complexity. Wordly, a pioneer and leader in live AI translation and captioning, announced new mobile-first enhancements to the Wordly Translation App designed specifically for conferences, tradeshows, and events.

The latest updates include background audio and screen-lock functionality, allowing attendees to listen to live translations while multitasking and conserving battery life, along with instant language search for faster onboarding. Speakers also benefit from push-to-talk and automatic language detection, enabling seamless, two-way multilingual communication in dynamic sessions, all at no additional cost to existing customers.

“Event professionals are rethinking accessibility as a core part of the attendee experience,” said Lakshman Rathnam, Founder and CEO of Wordly. “These mobile enhancements give organizers a scalable way to provide inclusive, multilingual access without additional hardware, staffing, or logistical burden.”

Designed for the realities of live events

The updated Wordly Translation App introduces several features tailored to how attendees and speakers engage during events, including:

Background Audio for Multitasking: Attendees can now continue listening to translated audio while switching between apps on their mobile device. Whether checking the event app, reviewing presentation materials, or responding to messages, participants remain connected to the session without interruption.

Screen-Lock Battery Optimization: With extended conference days in mind, the app now allows translated audio to continue playing while a device screen is locked. This feature helps conserve battery life, critical for multi-session agendas and large-scale conventions.

Instant Language Search: A newly added search function enables users to quickly locate their preferred language from dozens of options, reducing onboarding friction and minimizing the need for onsite support.

New capabilities for speakers and session leaders

In addition to enhancing the attendee experience, Wordly has expanded functionality for presenters and facilitators, including:

Push-to-Talk Functionality: Speakers can now use push-to-talk directly within the app, allowing for two-way communication in multilingual settings. The feature is particularly well-suited for breakout discussions, workshops, hosted buyer meetings, and small-group sessions, where interactive dialogue is essential.

Automatic Language Detection and Switching: For sessions where presenters shift between languages, the app automatically recognizes language changes and adjusts translations accordingly to ensure a smooth experience for diverse audiences without manual resets.

Scalable language access without headsets or booths

Unlike traditional interpretation models that require physical equipment, interpreters onsite, or dedicated booths, the Wordly mobile app operates on attendees’ own iOS or Android devices. Participants simply enter a Session ID provided by the organizer and select their language, no account creation is required. For speakers, access to advanced features such as push-to-talk is granted through a secure passcode.

Meeting industry demand for inclusive design

With international attendance rebounding and hybrid formats remaining standard, language accessibility has become a strategic priority for event organizers, associations, and corporate planners. Wordly’s mobile enhancements support:

● Global events and tradeshows seeking to broaden international participation
● Corporate events connecting distributed teams
● Association meetings aiming to increase member engagement
● Education and campus events serving multilingual communities
● Government and civic gatherings prioritizing public access

By eliminating hardware requirements and simplifying user onboarding, the updated Wordly Translation App enables planners to scale multilingual access across general sessions, breakouts, and ancillary meetings with minimal operational lift.
