Summa Linguae Technologies Acquires Datamundi, Strengthens Data Solutions Offering

Kraków, Poland: Summa Linguae Technologies has acquired Datamundi, effective 15.12.2021.

Founded in 2007 in Belgium, DATAMUNDI BV has been at the leading edge of creating and enriching language data for linguistic research institutes and global natural language processing (NLP) system builders. Their focus is on enhancing machine translation and chatbots.

Gert Van Assche, CEO and Founder at Datamundi, stated “We contacted Summa Linguae in 2021 when we started to think about teaming up with a broader industry player to reinforce our capabilities. Out of all the companies we spoke to, Summa Linguae’s culture and focus on language and data systems, made them the obvious choice. Our areas of expertise interlock nicely with theirs.”

Krzysztof Zdanowski, CEO and Founder of Summa Linguae, adds “Datamundi complements our current data solutions offering by enhancing the range of services we can offer our clients, and adding a deeper data science capability to address emerging challenges in the space. Our existing focus on voice and image data will be expanded by Datamundi’s top notch expertise in the NLP space, a growing focus of the industry. Summa Linguae is also pleased to announce the appointment of Gert Van Assche as its CTO. “Gert is a renowned industry expert with a deep appreciation of the science behind our work. He will ensure Summa remains at the forefront of data innovation,” noted Mr. Zdanowski.

Since 2017, Summa Linguae has been focused on developing its data solutions offering. This acquisition, which follows the 2019 acquisition of Globalme, a Canadian company, will result in pro-forma annual consolidated revenues for 2021 of approximately USD 27M (including Datamundi), over 70% from non-localization work, and almost all of this for US based clients. Summa Linguae paid approximately USD [5.5M] [in cash and stock] to acquire 100% stake in Datamundi. Summa Linguae’s advisors in this transaction were the law firm CK Legal Chabasiewicz, Kowalska i Partnerzy (Poland) and Novius (Belgium).
