European Commission Appoints New Director General for Interpretation

Genoveva Ruiz Calavera has stepped into the role of Director General of the Directorate General for Interpretation at the European Commission (DG SCIC, the French-language acronym for the department). Ruiz Calavera began working in the role on April 1, after the European Commission began searching for someone to replace former Director General Florika Fink-Hooijer, who stepped down last September. Ruiz Calavera hopes to improve recruitment of contract interpreters, who have been particularly hard hit as a result of the switch to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

RoundTable Studio Granted ISO 27001 Certification

On April 6, RoundTable Studio, a localization and translation company specializing in Latin American markets, was granted ISO 27001 Certification. The ISO 27001 is the globally recognized standard for managing and maintaining information security. This makes the company, with offices in Argentina and Brazil, the first Latin American localization company to receive such certification, according to a press release.

TRANSLIT Announces New Interpreting Conference

Ireland-based language services provider TRANSLIT has announced that it will be hosting a new conference for language professionals on May 26. The free virtual conference, Interpreting Insights, will feature events for industry professionals at all levels, including Q&A sessions for beginning interpreters and networking events. Those interested can register to attend the conference at Eventbrite.

LocHub Launches New Tool for Localization

LocHub, a company specializing in multilingual publishing and localization, has announced the release of QA Insights, its artificial intelligence-powered tool for testing and monitoring localized content. QA Insights allows companies to analyze their multilingual SEO strategy by testing localized content before publication, so that issues like translation errors or localization inconsistencies are caught early on in the process.
