The European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) has launched the call for expressions of interest for Tech4Asylum 2026, a pioneering event dedicated to showcasing innovative language technologies that can support asylum and migration procedures across Europe.
Scheduled to take place in Malta on 2 December 2026, Tech4Asylum 2026 will bring together asylum authorities, EU institutions, technology providers, researchers and industry experts to explore how advances in translation, transcription, speech-to-text and multilingual communication technologies can enhance public-sector operations in increasingly multilingual environments.
The initiative comes at a pivotal moment for European asylum systems. As EU+ countries engage in the implementation of the Pact on Migration and Asylum, authorities face new operational requirements, including the mandatory recording of asylum interviews, increased information exchange between Member States and the need to manage growing volumes of multilingual data efficiently and accurately.
To support these evolving needs, the EUAA is inviting technology companies and service providers to submit solutions in areas such as:
- Machine translation and interpretation
- Automated transcription and speech-to-text technologies
- AI-supported multilingual communication
- Innovative language technologies that enhance operational efficiency and accessibility
Tech4Asylum 2026 represents a significant opportunity for the language services and language technology sectors. For the first time, a dedicated EU platform will focus specifically on the language-related challenges faced by asylum and migration authorities, creating new opportunities for collaboration between public institutions and technology innovators.
The event is expected to highlight how artificial intelligence and language technologies can help improve communication between authorities and applicants, reduce administrative burdens, accelerate case processing and support consistent multilingual information management while maintaining quality, security and reliability standards that are critical in asylum procedures.
For the EUAA, the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to identifying practical, innovative solutions that can support Member States in implementing the Pact on Migration and Asylum effectively. At the same time, it offers language technology providers a unique opportunity to demonstrate how their solutions can address complex real-world challenges in a high-impact public-service environment.
The call for expressions of interest is open until 2 August 2026.
