Meet TAUS’s New Head of Sales & Marketing Anne-Maj van der Meer

The Translation Automation User Society (TAUS), a leading provider of language data for AI, has a new sales and marketing leader: Anne-Maj van der Meer. Previously the company’s Director of Strategic Partnerships, she shared with us her vision for promoting TAUS’s extensive products and services.

What’s your main goal in this role?

TAUS has been in business for almost 20 years, but only since our transition to a language data solutions company have we more actively started working on our sales and marketing strategy and efforts. TAUS has many services and products that are of great value now that the AI and localization industries seem to be merging:

  • Our rich data repository and Human Language Project can be utilized to acquire data to train the models and engines.
  • Quality estimation (QE) can help you gain more insights into your quality — also allowing for cost and time savings, more efficient workflows, and better risk management.
  • Our in-house natural language processing (NLP) team is offering consulting for anyone who needs help enhancing their data or just wants to be supported in their first steps of becoming more AI-ready.

My main goal in my new role as Head of Sales & Marketing is to spread the word about all of these fantastic services, using the broad network I’ve built up over the 20 years that I have been around in this industry as well as my non-technical background to try and explain everything we do in a more accessible way.

How do you think users will see a difference six months from now? 

They’ll see more adoption of machine translation (MT) and QE, as well as more willingness to invest in AI to make translation pipelines more efficient. My role is to put TAUS on the map as the go-to place for help with this, whether it’s customizing a model for QE, curating the right dataset, or consulting with NLP services. Through collaborations with our technology partners and industry associations, we’ll be spreading knowledge through blogs, webinars, and events.

Has this always been an ambition of yours?

Growing up, as well as during my time at TAUS, I’ve always had many different ambitions: writing a book, opening a cozy coffee house/bakery, studying psychology, working with children… I have to be honest and say that I’ve never dreamed of becoming Head of Sales & Marketing of a technology company.

However, I’ve always been so excited to be part of TAUS and this industry. It’s something that people who are not in our industry never think about. They just expect all content to always be available in their own language. When I tell friends or family about our work, they are always quite amazed. So, being at the forefront of the developments of all the language technology is really exciting and, while it’s never been something I dreamed of, I cannot imagine myself not being here anymore.
