The Association of Translation Companies (ATC)’s recently appointed chair Steve Higgins officially began his term last month. The CEO of Mondia Technologies (which incorporates Travod International, Wordminds Translations, and Traduno), Higgins steps into the ATC role with a focus on supporting the association’s initiatives for its member companies across the United Kingdom (UK) and internationally. He has 13 years of experience in the language industry, having previously worked at Applied Language Solutions, Capita, and Jonckers.
“It’s a great honor and opportunity for me to be elected as the ATC’s Chair,” Higgins says, according to an ATC blog post. “I have thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck in with Council work over the past two years, and I look forward to working more closely with the ATC’s leadership, members, and stakeholders to help language service companies to thrive in this rapidly changing market.”
ATC CEO Raisa McNab said in a press release, “I’m absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Steve more closely, and to make the ATC an even stronger trade association for the UK’s language services sector. Steve brings with him a wealth of expertise and knowledge of the language services business, but even more importantly, he brings his dedication and drive to raise the profile and the standards in our industry, and to continue to foster an open, collaborative community culture.”
Higgins succeeds Ruth Partington, who led the ATC during a period marked by significant industry developments and who will remain on the association’s council.
“For me, it’s a bittersweet thing to step down from my role as ATC Chair, and hand over the reins to our Steve,” Partington says in the blog post. “It has been a huge pleasure [to] work with the entire ATC team to overcome the challenges that consecutive disruptions in the form of Brexit, Covid, economic challenges, and now the AI revolution have brought.”
Established in 1976, the ATC promotes best practices and industry standards, supporting collaboration and professional integrity in the language industry. The ATC’s new chair will work with council members and stakeholders to continue addressing industry changes, including technology’s impact on language services and evolving regulatory frameworks.
