Utah Valley University (UVU) will host its third annual Language Services Industry Day on April 9, 2025, offering students, educators, and professionals across Utah a unique opportunity to explore careers in the language services sector. The event, which runs from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm in room CB 101C, aims to connect students—whether they are studying languages, business, or technology—with companies, associations, non-profits, and experts from the language industry.
This year’s event will begin with two guest speakers, each offering a distinct perspective on the industry. Dr. Sam López, Associate Professor of Spanish and Translation at Brigham Young University, will open the event with a presentation on the ethics and philosophy of translation technology, addressing the balance between technological advancement and ethical responsibility in language work. Following Dr. López, Joseph Featherstone, CEO and owner of Hands Up Communications, will speak about entrepreneurship in the language industry, highlighting the practical steps and creative thinking needed to build a successful business in this field.
After the speaker session, attendees will move into an open floor exhibition, where language service providers, non-profits, and professional associations will host tables and booths. This networking space gives students the chance to ask questions, learn about internships and job openings, and explore the diverse career paths available in the language industry—from translation and interpreting to language technology and localization.
Language Services Industry Day at UVU is open to all students, educators, and professionals across Utah, regardless of their academic focus. Whether students are fluent in multiple languages or simply curious about careers that bridge language, culture, and technology, this event provides valuable insights into the opportunities available in the rapidly evolving language services landscape.
