ModelFront Named “Tech of the Week” by Nimdzi

Independent research organization Nimdzi Insights has recognized ModelFront as Tech of the Week, for its progress on AI for scaling human-quality translation in the real world.

ModelFront scales human-quality translation with AI to check and fix machine translations via quality prediction and automatic post-editing. Hundreds of millions of words of high-value content from Fortune 500s, like Booking.com, are trusted to ModelFront. Other large buyers like Farfetch have shared their success stories and numbers at top industry events like LocWorld.

ModelFront works by automatically confirming millions of translations that professional translators would confirm unedited as well. At the core of ModelFront’s AI system are two private, customized LLMs, working in tandem:

  • Quality prediction to confirm or reject AI translations, while keeping near-human quality;
  • Automatic post-editing to fix rejected translations, for another check.

ModelFront does not provide generic models, nor use third-party models like ChatGPT. It is built to work within existing setups. Integrations are available for major TMSs and via API.

Nimdzi’s recognition marks ModelFront’s progress in making quality estimation and automatic post-editing work in the real world, where human quality and seamless integration are key.

AI to check AI was always seen as valuable, but hard. Dozens of tech companies, including AI legend Google, had tried to make machine translation quality estimation (MTQE) research work in the real world, with no success.

“There is no silver bullet. Ultimately, we take responsibility for keeping human quality.” — Adam Bittlingmayer, CEO of ModelFront

Keeping human quality is a serious technical challenge, but key for translation buyers to get direct value from AI to check and fix AI translations.

The co-founders of ModelFront previously worked as engineers at Google Translate and Google Research, as well as Silicon Valley startups (the Transformer model architecture at the heart of GenAI was invented at Google in 2017 for translation).

With this “tech of the week” nomination, Nimdzi Insights continues its initiative of recognizing developments in the language technology field.
