Unicode Technology Workshop 2025 Opens Registration and Call for Submissions

Event to be held at Microsoft’s Silicon Valley campus, November 11–13

The Unicode Consortium has announced that registration is now open for the third annual Unicode Technology Workshop (UTW), to be held November 11–13, 2025, at Microsoft’s Silicon Valley campus in California. The event brings together engineers, linguists, developers, and product managers to explore the technologies that support internationalization and localization across global platforms.

Attendees can choose to register for one or both segments of the event: Tutorials Day on November 11 and the main Unicode Technology Workshop from November 12 to 13. Early bird registration is available until August 31 using the code UTW2025Early, with additional discounts for Unicode members.

Focus on internationalization, localization, and text technology

The agenda includes tutorials, seminars, lightning talks, and open discussions centered on Unicode-related technologies. Topics will include i18n libraries, locale data frameworks, globalization tooling, localization pipelines, input methods, and text rendering. The workshop aims to provide attendees with tools and insights to better support multilingual users and address complex internationalization challenges.

The Unicode Consortium also opened a call for submissions for those interested in presenting at UTW 2025. Proposals are encouraged from a broad range of professionals, including linguists, software engineers, product managers, and members of language communities. The deadline to submit a proposal is July 31.

Suggested topics include font design, Unicode properties, support for bidirectional text, and introductory sessions on software internationalization. Accepted speakers will join a growing network of contributors helping shape the future of Unicode technology.

Community and collaboration

Unicode remains a critical component of the modern software stack, enabling global communication across billions of devices. Through open-source development and a collaborative ecosystem, the Consortium continues to promote interoperability, digital inclusion, and language diversity worldwide.

The 2025 edition is expected to attract participation from both industry and academic sectors, reflecting the broad relevance of Unicode technologies.
